Description • Architect: Renzo Piano Building Workshop S.r.L. • Cost Manager: Davis Langdon & Seah International. ___________________________________________________________ • The building will be situated on the site of Southwark Towers at the entrance to London Bridge Station on an island site between London Bridge Street and Railway Approach. • The original design by Broadway Malyan called for a 87 storey, 365m circular glass tower, the design was panned by critics. This design was replaced by Renzo Piano's 390m, 80 storey version which was later shortened to the current 310m design. • Southwark Towers, a 100m tall office building ocuppied by accounts PriceWaterhouseCoopers,will be demolished to make way for the Shard London Bridge. http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=9448 • At 1003ft (1016ft AOD) it could become the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe. • The floor uses are as follows: - Floors B3-B1 - Basement/Sevice Areas. - Floors 0-4 - Public Areas/Reception. - Floors 5-28 - Offices. - Floors 31-33 - Mid level Viewing Gallery. - Floors 34-52 - Hotel. - Floors 53-65 - Apartments. - Floors 68-71 - Upper Viewing Gallery. • A public enquiry into London Bridge Tower which decided its fate began on 15th April 2003, the results were expected in July but the announcement was delayed for unknown reasons. Approved by the goverment on Nov 19th 2003, construction is due to start in 2006, Southwark Towers was to be demolished during 2006.
